Glenorchy is a suburb located in the northern part of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The suburb has its own history that is intertwined with the history of Tasmania and Australia in general.

Indigenous and Early European settlement

The original inhabitants of the area were the Mouheneener tribe of the indigenous people of Tasmania. However, by the time Europeans arrived in Tasmania, the Mouheneener tribe had been almost entirely wiped out by disease and conflict with European settlers.

The first European settlement in the area was established by a British naval surgeon named Thomas Bather Moore in 1804. Moore established a farm near the modern-day suburb of Lutana.
